Quick answer

How does the Ontario heat pump rebate work?

Ontario homeowners installing a qualifying ENERGY STAR® cold-climate heat pump through a participating contractor receive cash back through the Home Renovation Savings Program — between $2,000 and $7,500 for an air source unit and up to $12,000 for a ground source system. Income-eligible households can receive a heat pump at no cost through the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) or Energy Affordability Program (EAP). No home energy assessment is required for most heat pump rebates.

FAQ

Heat pump rebate Ontario — common questions

How much is the heat pump rebate in Ontario?

Through the Home Renovation Savings Program, Ontario homeowners can claim $500–$1,250 per ton on a cold-climate air source heat pump (capped at $2,000–$7,500 depending on your current heating fuel) and up to $12,000 on a ground source heat pump. Income-eligible households can also access a free heat pump through the Energy Affordability Program or OHPA — bringing the total to $0 out of pocket.

Who qualifies for the Ontario heat pump rebate?

Any residential customer in Ontario who installs a qualifying ENERGY STAR® heat pump through a participating contractor qualifies for the Home Renovation Savings Program — no income test or home energy audit required. Income-qualified households heating with oil, electric, propane or wood may also qualify for the OHPA or Energy Affordability Program at no cost.

Do I need a home energy assessment to claim the rebate?

No. The Home Renovation Savings Program does not require a home energy assessment for heat pumps, attic insulation or smart thermostats. You just need to use a participating contractor and submit the rebate application within the program timelines.

Can I stack multiple Ontario heat pump rebates?

Some programs can be combined and others cannot. We review your eligibility for OHPA, EAP and the Home Renovation Savings Program together and apply the combination that maximizes your benefit. In many cases income-eligible households end up paying $0.

How long does it take to receive the rebate?

Most Home Renovation Savings rebates are paid out within 6–12 weeks of submission. We file the application on your behalf the same week we complete the install so the clock starts immediately.

Which heat pump brands qualify for the Ontario rebate?

Most major ENERGY STAR® cold-climate brands qualify, including Mitsubishi, Daikin, Lennox, Carrier, Trane, Bosch and LG. We confirm the exact model qualifies before we install so you don't risk losing the rebate.
